Congressman Troy Nehls proudly represents the 22nd congressional district of Texas in the United States. This district includes parts of Fort Bend, Brazoria, and Harris counties. The map was approved by Governor Greg Abbott and it means that Fort Bend County will also be represented in Congress by District 7, currently represented by Lizzie Fletcher (Democrat from Houston). The proposed map foresees that Congressional District 22, currently represented by Nehls, will include most of Fort Bend County, a portion of Brazoria County, and all of Wharton and Matagorda counties.
Nehls would continue to represent the majority of Richmond, Greatwood, Rosenberg, and Needville. In Fort Bend County, Green represents the communities of Missouri City, Stafford, and Sugar Land, except for the part of Sugar Land that includes the community of Greatwood. Louis Kolkhorst, a Republican, is the incumbent of District 18, which formerly included the western half of Fort Bend County. Both districts will remain in parts of Fort Bend County: District 9 will continue to occupy the Missouri City area and District 22 will extend southwestward to include Wharton and Matagorda counties. The new maps also create a new District 76 that will include most of Fort Bend County, north of 90A and east of Harlem Road.
The Fort Bend County street guide for voters is a useful tool for candidates, officials, and the general public to determine the address assignment of districts and electoral districts. District 85 will now encompass the southeastern and southwestern fringes of Fort Bend County, and will now occupy Wharton County, along with several new counties such as Fayette, Austin, Waller and Colorado. Redistricting has been a constant topic in Fort Bend County in recent weeks and this could mean that many residents will need to familiarize themselves with new elected officials and voting precincts in the future. Fort Bend County will soon enter another district of the Texas House of Representatives compared to the last 10 years, with a total of five districts serving residents instead of four. The redistricting map has been met with criticism from Democrats who said that it was designed to help Republicans win elections. Phil Stephenson is the incumbent representative for District 85 which includes much of the outlying areas of Fort Bend County as well as much of Wharton County.
